Individuals that have experienced a major medical event or are experiencing changes due to a decline in health can benefit from an evaluation and possible re-training of driving skills.
The Driving Assessment Involves
1. The Clinical Evaluation
Evaluates the effects a medical condition may have on driving. This includes a visual screen, physical ability screen, perceptual and cognitive screen and safety awareness.
2. On-Road Evaluation
Assesses the client's physical ability and endurance to operate the vehicle, safe interaction with other drivers and responses to traffic environments. This evaluation takes place on-road with a driving instructor and certified Driver Rehab Specialist/Occupational Therapist in a dual controlled car.
– Determines the client's capabilities
– Prescribes the type of adaptive equipment that best suits the client's needs
– Indicates whether driver training is appropriate
